I'll use Ultrix as an example...

Perhaps you don't have any working Ultrix install media, or hard drives, =
etc.  But you happen to have that commercial application that you still =
have the occasion to use on its original CD-ROM.  Because Ultrix =
binaries are statically-linked, you don't need any bits from Ultrix to =
run them.  Why not be able to run them on a system that doesn't have y2k =
bugs?

As for OSF/1, yes, you're better off running commercial software for =
OSF/1 on OSF/1, because our OSF/1 implementation is incomplete, and so =
the application likely will not work, especially if it uses threads.
