Starting xdm (NetBSD/pmax 2.0 on DECstation 5000/25)

I am encountering the following problem with NetBSD/pmax 2.0 on a
Personal DECstation 5000/25:

xdm dont's start.

/var/log/xdm.log contains :

Fatal server error:
no screens found
xdm error (pid 283): Server for display :0 terminated unexpectedly: 1
xdm error (pid 283): Display :0 is beeing disabled

The workstation has frame buffer on-board and a working monitor, used
as a console at the present.

What could be wrong in my system ?  Something in the X config files ?
