Yeah, I meant to retire it but never got around to actually do it. I  
introduced it a while ago because without it mec would eventually  
slow down severely ( to something like 8kB/s ) - with the delays I'd  
get more than 1MB/s.
Then you fixed the real problem ( i was merely poking around in the  
dark )
