The compilation (on the O2) this time worked - I first tried with the 
default kernel config for IP12 and NetBSD 3.0 to see if it works at all 
- which it did - and then stripped it down, resulting in an ECOFF image 
of about 2 MB in size. I attached the two config files that were changed 
and used.

Sadly it doesn't behave differently than the other kernels > 1.6T:
