Just a quick note that I've committed sh3el support for gdb-5.3.
Bootstrapped and tested on hpcsh running gcc-3.3 world.  I haven't
tested it on a gcc2 (all static) world.

Disassembler in gdb-5.0 was broken (for me at least), gdb-5.3 is
working ok in this regard.

There still seems to be problems with ptrace(2), trying to set a
breakpoint results in SIGILL.  I haven't really investigated what's
wrong there.
