Can you please try this kernel and let me know if it boots into sysinst, 
or how far it gets? Your hyperterminal log helped a lot!

FWIW I tried booting this kernel in gxemul ("gxemul -E landisk 
netbsd-INSTALL+ramdisk") but it hung pretty early - not sure if that's due 
to gxemul, but I'll pretend it does:
