Once I jogged my memory, I remembered that the db4 patches originated from me -- I was running an SS20 at the time as my home server, and Netatalk needed db4. I don't remember why I did not at the time submit the patches to the PR, but some time later the SM71s got flaky (cache memory errors), and I switched to a Macintosh B/W G3 which didn't have issues with db4. Bottom line: The sparc v[78] mutex patches are tested, and we just needed to make sure that the patch set was intact - thanks for verifying.
