Hi, the summer hotness passed, so it is safe again to run my dual-proc sparcs for heavier compiling tasks, I resumed building stuff. This time, it happens during "sudo make replace". I an re-issue serval times, it fails. Fine, I think... let's open another ssh session and it fails the same... so it cannot be bound to the current shell. Maybe ssh? I still have trusty telnetd running.. telnet in, re-run. Same issue! so it looks to be system-wide. No kernel dmesg. Again, a reboot fixed everything.
