The first time run it updates some profile entries.
If the -P invocation does not help, I have no clue - it just works (*) for
me, I use it regularily.

You could rebuild the pkg with options debug enabled, then it will be a lot
verbose and probably tell you what goes wrong.

(*) the pkgsrc version is not able to reliably do https for me - while the
version I initally build straight from hg sources works fine - I am still
trying to track this down, but it is not as easy as an imediate crash, and
everything I looked at in more detail for now just works as expected, just
overall the puzzle does not seem to fit.
