Does it really not build, or does it just fail some of the tests in the validation test suite as some of the replies seem to indicate? If the latter, then just ignore the failures, or better yet, submit a patch to those test cases so they are skipped on VAX. If it doesn't build at all, then what you have is a misguided environmental assumption in the code that needs to be repaired. paul
