The "core notifier timeout" and "base:-n timeout" messages happen all the time on my system. The messages themselves seem to be detailed internal messages and don't provide any link back to real-world, so not very useful for debugging. On my system at least the system is useable, modulo stalling at unexpected times. See my PR kern/58053 for more details. FWIW, my system behsves quite well when using firefox or xterms; it fails misersably when I throw libreoffice and/or gnucash (both from pkgsrc) into the mix. You can most likely get a dumb framebuffer running if you disable nouveau at boot. Just interrupt the countdown, excape to the boot command prompt, and enter userconf disable nouveau* Then continue booting. You won't get any X accelleration... :-( Good luck.
