To enable SMP you have to enable it in the boot loader, BIOS platform code, smp_boot.c. As soon as the other CPUs jump into the kernel, the system hangs. Probably the reason could just be that GCC has problems with the inline assembly that is calling the kernel function. I haven't investigated into this yet, but I remember I once had the problem with the main CPU as well, so it could be the same.
