It uses etusercontext(...,LOGIN_SETALL||LOGIN_SETXDGENV) which includes LOGIN_SETENV... ...But xenodm does clean-up the environment of login sessions. So your SAMPLE_ENV_VAR also needs to be authorized in /etc/X11/xenodm.conf in the DisplayManager.exportList resource. See the xenodm(1) manual page for details. -- Matthieu Herrb
