The Tadpole SPARCbook 5000/6500 is currently on the sparc64 page under
"Untested machines (please help us test!)". I have a 6500 and OpenBSD 7.9
boots on it.
This machine's IDPROM is invalid (dead NVRAM battery).
OpenBoot reports "The IDPROM contents are invalid", ethernet address
0:0:0:0:0:0, host ID 00000040. OpenBSD boots fine. Some of what follows is
downstream of that and would not appear on a machine with a good IDPROM.
Hardware: SPARCbook 6500, UltraSPARC-IIe 650MHz, 4GB RAM, ATI Rage Mobility
with a 1400x1050 panel, dual Davicom DM9102 ethernet, two TI PCI1225 CardBus
slots, Acer Labs M1533 southbridge, Toshiba SD-R6112 DVD-ROM.
This dmesg is from the 7.9 RAMDISK booted off CD; the internal disk is out of
the machine for imaging. I will send a dmesg from a real install once I have
one, if that is useful.
1. clock1 at ebus0 addr 0-1fff fails with "can't map register". prtc0 attaches
and the system gets "WARNING: bad clock chip time". The TOD clock is
unusable. Possibly IDPROM-related, possibly not.
2. Cosmetic: the clock1 attach line is missing a newline before the error, so
it prints as "clock1 at ebus0 addr 0-1fffclock1: can't map register".
3. Both dc(4) interfaces come up with address 00:00:00:00:00:00, since the
station address comes from the IDPROM. Setting lladdr by hand works.
4. "Acer Labs M7101 Power" at pci0 dev 17 not configured. OpenBoot probes a
"tadpmu" node on device 7. No battery, thermal or fan information is
available. I believe NetBSD has a tadpmu driver for the SPARCLE; I do not
know whether anything equivalent exists here.
5. "Acer Labs M5451 Audio" at pci0 dev 8 not configured. No audio.
6. "flashprom" at ebus0 addr 0-fffff not configured.
7. machfb0 reports "aperture needed".
Otherwise everything attaches: CPU, all 4GB, both CardBus and PCMCIA slots,
USB (a Kingston stick enumerates and works), the DVD-ROM, and the internal
keyboard, which works without any Tadpole-specific driver. That last point may
be worth noting for anyone else with one of these, since the SPARCbook keyboard
is a known problem under stock Solaris.
Happy to test patches or run anything else on it.
