It's not really a waste. Yes, it's more adresses then you need, but
there fit more IP's in one /64 then in all of IPv4 (squared). Asking
for more addresses (more subnets) usually gets you a /48, because
that's easier to administer for your v6-supplier (he.net).

I've learned the following trick from a friend :

</48 PREFIX>:<site><vlan>:/64

With 4096 vlans, this gives room for 8 sites. You may not have vlans,
or more then one site, but use the different interfaces on your
firewall then, and number from there.

Then you require another /64. Ask your provider for another /64 or a
bigger allocation. This bigger allocation probably means a /48. Some
tunnelbrokers (SixXS comes to mind) will give you a /48 by default.
