DO NOT EVEN CONSIDER IPV4 MAPPED ADDRESSES A FEATURE.  CONSIDER IT A BUG.

Thorston, I'm usually more than sympathetic to your views, but this one,
you are ON DRUGS.

There is no reason why IPv4 mapped addresses need exist, except some people
(apparently you included) have regarded the lazy programming of one socket,
both protocols, to be something you cannot live without.
