keyboard failure

i am running obsd 3.2 on a mac68k system.

problem:

either (keyboard is plugged into one of the two available adb ports)
a) obsd boots without problems; no error messages BUT after login 
prompt shows, the keyboard does not work; it will not respond to 
keystrokes

or (keyboard is plugged into one of the adb ports and the second one is 
used by a mouse/trackball)
b) obsd boots, BUT will halt during the adb device init. the boot 
process will ONLY continue, if a (any) key is hit. Login works.

any ideas what's going on here?
