X11 on 3.5 freetype error

When I installed 3.5 (the official release) on my q610, I ran into an 
issue with freetype. X launches just fine, and apps that are not linked 
against freetype work fine. This includes things like xeyes, but not 
xterm. Apps that are linked against freetype give this error:

/usr/libexec/ld.so: xterm: libfreetype.so.11.0: No such file or 
directory

And indeed, this library is not on my system. Did I just miss a file 
during the install, or has anyone else seen this? I've searched mailing 
lists & faqs to no avail... freetype seems to be my personal nemesis 
lately. I haven't tried to build X from source on the machine yet, 
either.

Any clues appreciated.
