I tried the new Dec 19 snapshots and I was able to do an update via
bsd.rd booted of the cdrom.

That part worked like a charm and yes, it is quite faster than the
mac installer.

The bad was that the disksets are out of sync and base36.tgz did not
include libc.so.35. So no dynamically linked binary are working
now.
