How to boot a Quadra 605, LC 475, Performa 475 or 476

A couple of folks have reported problems booting a Quadra 605, LC 475, 
Performa 475 or 476 (all the same logic board; ref: 
<http://www.lowendmac.com/quadra/q605.shtml>).

These machines do boot (assuming you have a full 68040 CPU installed), 
but require that certain options be selected in the booter.  Namely, 
"Video Address Hack for LC475" is essential if you don't want to see 
the system freeze with a message something like:

    [ using 407118 bytes of bsd a.out symbol table ]

Also, if you have an accelerated logic board on your hands, as per this 
page:

then your Quadra 605, LC 475, Performa 475 or 476 will not boot unless 
you also fake the Gestalt or machine ID.  Changing the clock speed 
changes the ID, and OpenBSD only likes the unaccelerated ID's.  Version 
1.11.4a1 or later of the Booter can fake the ID.  Note that OpenBSD 
currently ships with Version 1.11.3, so it lacks this feature.  But 
OpenBSD is compatible with later versions of the Booter, so you can 
scoot on over to the NetBSD or MacBSD site and pick up a newer version.

I personally prefer - and have been using for many years now - Booter 
2.0.0.  It has some refinements and bug fixes (e.g. you no longer have 
to quit after "saving" preferences for the changes to be written to 
disk).  You can find the latest version at Nigel Pearson's web page:

Nigel is the main engineer responsible for the Booter.

I have ran OpenBSD 3.2, 3.4 and 3.7 on both accelerated and 
non-accelerated Quadra 605/LC 475/Performa 475/476 logic boards.  I use 
an ID of 89 to boot (although 94 should work too).
