And just barely enough to get a beep at that...

The asc driver looks fairly simple.  Speed of the machine seems to
impact the tone of the beeper (comparing my Quadra 650 and my Quadra
610).  The 610 gives a decent beep, the Q650 gives just a click. 
Hmmm...the 610 GAVE a decent beep, I would have swore, but when I just
went down to try it, it also gave just the click.  Huh.  

If you want to play mp3 files, forget it.  Not enough processor, and
the machine is just not designed for that kind of use.  Keep in mind,
the early Mac HW was basicly single user, single tasking.  While it
played cool sounds in its day, it pretty much assumed the whole
processor was available to do the work...making it likely that a Unix
mp3 player will be a productive project...
