Hi Jonathan,

Thanks for the additional details and the Xorg log. They clear up two
points.

First, /dev/wsmouse2 actually is present in the last `xinput list`, but X
displays the Identifier from the InputDevice section instead of the device
pathname: TrackPoint and buttons id=6. The log confirms that this is
/dev/wsmouse2:

        Option "Device" "/dev/wsmouse2"
        XINPUT: Adding extended input device
"TrackPoint and buttons" (type: MOUSE, id 6)

Second, I caused some confusion by not saying clearly that your original
synaptics section needed to remain. Without it, the log shows that
/dev/wsmouse0 was opened by the generic ws driver: Using input driver 'ws'
for '/dev/wsmouse0'

That is the configuration in which every touchpad movement causes a jump,
so the results from those tests do not tell us whether the separately
opened wsmouse2 works correctly.

For one more controlled test, I suggest this complete xorg.conf:

        Section "InputClass"
                Identifier "wsmouse touchpad"
                Driver "synaptics"
                MatchIsTouchpad "on"
        EndSection

        Section "InputDevice"
                Identifier "TrackPoint and buttons"
                Driver "ws"
                Option "Device" "/dev/wsmouse2"
                Option "AutoServerLayout" "true"
        EndSection

I have left out the Ignore section because it did not take effect. After
restarting X, `xinput list` should show:

        TrackPoint and buttons
        /dev/wsmouse0
        /dev/wsmouse

It may not show /dev/wsmouse1, since the synaptics driver previously failed
to initialise that interface. Then disable only the multiplexor, using its
name rather than its
changeable numerical id: xinput disable "/dev/wsmouse"

Please leave "TrackPoint and buttons" and /dev/wsmouse0 enabled. That
should give us: /dev/wsmouse0 touchpad through synaptics TrackPoint and
buttons /dev/wsmouse2 directly /dev/wsmouse disabled

The useful questions then are whether touchpad movement remains free of
jumps, and whether the TrackPoint and three physical buttons work through
the directly opened wsmouse2.

If /dev/wsmouse1 also appears, please disable that as well: xinput disable
"/dev/wsmouse1".

Sorry again for not giving the complete combined xorg.conf earlier.

Regards,
Kihaguru
