I just power on/off as needed. If I'm in transit, it's off. It's only powered on if I'm actively using it. When off, the opal, tpm, and fde bioctl/softraid are good enough to stop 99% of anyone from trying to crack it.
The speed of openbsd boot up/shutdown is so quick I don't notice the time.
