i386 smp cvs compile error

Hi, I have recently downloaded the smp cvs for i386 and tried to compile it on 
a Uniprocessor machine using the GENERIC.MP conf file and it gives out a lot 
of error messages of "unrecognized opcode ..." and "no such section" in the 
apicvec.s file. Please advise if I have to do this on an SMP machine instead 
as I am in the process of getting one. Thanks!
