Have you tried using your 4.4 bsd.rd to start the installation process 
for 4.4-current snapshot *.tgz files (I'm sure this is not the correct 
way to do it :~[ but I have used it in the past to get a snapshot 
installed) - or you could wait for next snapshot RAMDISK and see if that 
cures the problem....

Looking at the two dmesg's something changed that resulted in your cpu1 
et al. not being configured....
