XVR-100 bpp

I have a Sun Blade 1500 happily running OpenBSD 4.6 (release). I've just loaded it with 4 (four) XVR-100 framebuffers. (This box is intended to just sit in a corner and drive multiple slideshows). For the life of me, though, I cannot determine how to get any of those frame buffers to run at 24 bpp. Wsdisplay just represents whatever bpp the radeonfb driver reports. In turn, from the code, it looks like the bpp is set once at boot time. Okay, that's fine, I don't need to change them dynamically. Further, though, it seems set to 8 bpp as a default, taken from the card itself (i.e., looking through the getprop*() calls in the driver, and then I further confirmed that each card's information dumped from OpenPROM yielded "depth: 8"). But, for the life of me, I just can't find how to switch it to anything else. It can't just be changing the card's OpenPROM depth information, I imagine that other parameters would have to change with it. Even it that were the case... to be honest, the syntax for successfully changing it via eeprom also eludes me. Can anyone share a clue or hint with me here? (Bonus points if someone can point me to switching on the DVI output instead of HD15... but, frankly, that's a lower priority than getting RGB24 output out of it...) (I also have a small pile of XVR-600 cards, but the driver seems to imply that they're only supported at 7 bpp, so that's why I went with the XVR-100's. Would life be easier with PGX-64 cards?)
