But only if OpenBSD doesn't boot and work correctly. This part of the
installation notes was written with Ultra 1 in mind, where the earliest
systems would not be able to run a 64 bit kernel correctly without a
firmware upgrade.

On modern systems (anything using UltraSPARC-II or better processors,
really) there should be no reason to upgrade your current firmware.
