Upon physical installation and power on I rx'd the "Fast Data Access MMU
Miss" [1] error.

My limited experience indicates that this means there's a bit of
hardware that the Sun isn't happy with and the recovery step is removing
said hardware.

I could specify to boot from CD &c, but of course after loading for a
second or three the process would stop and the error would be redisplayed.

If there are other steps I could take I would be pleased to experiment
and report back.
