Four disks on sparc64/softraid0 -- kernel panic

Raymond Lillard <[email protected]>
Newsgroups gmane.os.openbsd.sparc
Message-ID <[email protected]>
After Nick corrected me in a previous message, I decided to
build my system with just two disks. I was able to build the
system with root-on-softraid using sd0 & sd1 to make a raid1
sd2 and all seems well. I have booted the two disk system
several times and it always comes up with all the pieces.

I am goal to delpoy a mail server and small drop-box service
on a Sun Fire V210/V240,Netra 240.

I have 4 140GB drives and want to configure sd0 & sd1 as
root-on-softraid and use sd2 & sd3 as a raid1 home partition.

sd4 will be a raid1 device with root and the OpenBSD OS
sd5 will be a raid1 device on /home

This fails, details follow. I can assemble such a system when
booting from bsd.rd, but when I boot from the real OS, it panics.

After establishing that everything works as intended for
the two disk configuration, I inserted the drives sd2 & sd3.
These drives had been previously wiped while booted up on bsd.rd.

The first boot attempt resulted in a kernel panic. I powered
down, removed sd2 & sd3, and rebooted to verify my two disk
installation was still intact. It was.

I then powered down again and re-inserted sd2 & sd3. This time
the machine booted up correctly. This is a mystery as I did
nothing to the sd2 & sd3 drives except remove and re-insert them.

I have pasted the console log below for the first boot failure
and the second boot success?

After booting successfully with all four disks in the machine,
I was able to assemble a raid1 as sd5 and do a newfs. I did
not put it into the fstab and rebooted. It panicked. I will
document that in the message that follows. these console logs
get quite long.

Here are two console logs:

I will post the trace and ps info in a second message. I think
in might be useful to look at these two, the only difference being
a machine power cycle.

Welcome to OpenBSD: The proactively secure Unix-like operating system.

Please use the sendbug(1) utility to report bugs in the system.
Before reporting a bug, please try to reproduce it with the latest
version of the code. With bug reports, please try to ensure that
enough information to reproduce the problem is enclosed, and if a
known fix for it exists, include that as well.
