Not trying to flood inboxes. Just wanted to say thanks for all of the 
pointers and patience
for an OpenBSD newbie. By booting bsd.rd instead of the regular bsd, I 
have dived into
the install as I have done on i386 machines.
Now doing the happy dance around the vax in our house.
