That all worked. It's working great now, thanks!

One problem I don't understand: I can't su to root anywhere (console or
from ssh); I just get "sorry" in reply and "bad su" messages in the log.
I can't figure out why. The user is in the wheel group. Works on i386.

One observation: I used the proper install process on i386 and found
that it's more accepting than when I set the root password on the VAX
with 'passwd'. No big deal.

FWIW, I couldn't get mopd running properly on linux (either on hppa or
on i386); it just wouldn't transfer the boot loader reliably. Ended up
installing OpenBSD/i386 just to boot the vax, and it worked first time
and everytime. I hope to track this down in the future and host the
VAXen on linux instead probably.
