'no blobs' and GIF files don't match

Hello,
Browsing through OpenBSD's website, I've noticed lots of GIF images. It
would be nice if instead the website had PNG images, which are technically
superior and do not feature patented software.
Converting is very easy, and most decent graphical web browsers support PNG
already.
Please let me know if there is any reason against converting from GIF.
