FYI, the original reason I added lsof was for Solaris (back when [DM] 
P ran on other platforms); later I got it working on the Mac, I think  
because it was a challenge.  The biggest issue is you have to make  
sure you have all the correct headers (with the port) for each  
possible minor version of the OS (eg, 10.4, 10.4.1, etc).  That was a  
pain...

No issue at all with its removal.
