mPlayer on Intel

I've noticed a few posts regarding mPlayer not building, and looked  
through the Bugzilla entry where the maintainership (s/p) had been  
dropped.

Is there any work being done on this currently? Has someone else  
picked up the torch? I don't have anywhere near the skills to figure  
out what might be going wrong, but I'd like to voice my support for  
anyone looking at taking it up.

Are there others that feel the same way, or is mPlayer from the  
command line a hack not worth investing resources into?
