Eric I am not sure that I agree with you. I would need more scientific and
statistical evidence to back up a claim that UFS "doesn't work nearly as
well as HFS".

I built out Darwin Ports 1.3.1 on a UFS volume on a PowerPC-based Mac
complete with RAID 0 mirroring and it works perfectly (all of my
DawinPorts-installed apps including Apache2, Subversion, Trac, etc. are
running without a glitch on UFS on PowerPC). I am not convinced that UFS on
an Intel-based Mac is causing the problems but I could be wrong (the only
way to know will be to test for it). I am now back to Xcode 2.2.1 with
10.4.7 (non-server), with the UFS target volume hanging on a Firewire disk
off the Mac Mini.
