This is a common problem -> http://trac.macosforge.org/projects/ 
macports/search?q=_iconv_canonicalize&ticket=on

Uninstall and clean any libiconv port you might have installed and  
then you have to manually inspect there isn't any lingering  
libiconv.* stuff in /opt/local/lib...
