Okay, so what troubleshooting steps can I take when it doesn't work that easily? Is there anything I can do (besides poking through source code) to troubleshoot this before I post here again? If I do end up posting here about it again, what data should I gather/post? The only information I've gathered so far is the output from startx and it doesn't appear very informative.
