System hangs up at splash screen after install

hi,

I just managed to install opendarwin 7.2.1 on a x86 machine. the install 
process went very smoothly and without a hitch but after rebooting the 
computer once the install was finished, the computer the hung up at the 
splash screen. I gave it about an hour and the system was still loading 
and displayed a screen with an apple icon.

What do you think is wrong? any suggestions would be welcome.
