Still waiting for root device

Hello everyone,

while trying to install OpenDarwin 7.2.1 (x86) on a Toshiba 2410 
notebook (see hardware below) the installation "hangs" after detecting 
some hardware, telling it ist "Still waiting for root device" over and 
over again (in a period of ca. one minute).

I already googled about this issue, finding hints to not use older 
cd-roms, only. The used notebook is roughly two years old, so I am not 
convinced the cd-rom is too old.

Is there anything I can do to circumvent this issue and get OpenDarwin 
to boot?
