Hi Folks,
We desperately need "Urgent Help ourselves.......
BUT......Just some very quick words of encouragement to other Nubie
Darwinian's.
First,,,,,,, "Don't Panic," if you have a problem.
Second,,,,,, try your best to replocate the problem. (If possible -
in some cases it may not,,, be possible !)
Three,,,,,,, write down what happened (in detail).
Four,,,,,,,, send your problems to this forum.
Now our problems,..... put simply, if we "enable" our physical ATA
IDE Ultra 100 40Gig HDD in the CMOS, our Host OS won't boot. We
have one of the latest Ggigabyte "Sigma Series" SLI 8 port SATA AMD
with an nVida nForce4 Chipset
Mobo's.
We have 4 other HDD's all SATA's, attached to the mobo,
PLUS a single ATA IDE HDD (aka /dev/hda). This drive contains our
Darwin x86 ver 8.0.1 we finally ....installed) and a LG CDROM/DVD
Drive is also connected as a Slave (aka /dev/hdb).
The problems we are now haveing are faintly reminding us of similar
and the same problems, we ourselves had many years ago, when we
began multi booting, NON INTER COOPERATIVE OS's on the same box
(PC).
It was hell on earth .... then along came BMBoot/ PQBoot and
all became calm in God's Heaven again.... including being able to
boot MS Dos plus Windows (any Flavour) and Linux (most Distro's).
UNFORTUNATELY our Dos based versions of BTMagic and PQBoot simply
refuse to boot Fedra 3 Core as well as MS Dos and Windows 2000
Professional...... and Darwin.
Perhaps there is a problem with the Fedora Core 3 Partition but,,,, its a
common ext3 partition, so we have taken Fedora Core 3 just back to
booting itself, Dos
and Win2k. Darwin is still there but unbootable... unlesss we
reinstall our Boot Manager aka BTboot/PQboot.... but then we seem
to loose the ability to boot Fedora Core 3 from BTBoot / PQBoot
Manager's abilities. Heaven forbit I/We have to go to finding out
how to create a set of Boot Rescue Disks ....just to boot still yet
bloody text based OS !!
Booting up to a Text Based command line OS is so NON acceptable in
this day and age it's almost criminal.
We are living in the 21st Century......NOT THE BLOODY ICE AGE !!!
It's just a .......BLOODY PAIN all in all,,,, that's all,,,,,,,,
and, very, very time wasteing !
Perhaps Fedora Core 3 may be able to boot Darwin by editing its
Grum Boot Loader config file. IF we knew what config file, where
the config file is in FC3 file tree and where and what in the file
to edit !
This booting problem is holding up other valuable (to us) matters.
Including messing with a "Pretty Face" or two for Darwin (GUI's).
We guess it may have something to do with Mac's HFS Partition type,
IF FC 3 is going to boot Darwin, it may "need" Grub to recognise
such a partition. To be able to allow a Darwin Boot Up if chosen.
Do we have anyone who has managed to tri-boot,,,,,
a Text Based Microsoft or IBM Dos (even a clone anti-bloat ware)
"plus" MS Win 2K Pro "Plus" Darwin ver 8.0.1 on X86 Mobo. With out
haveing to resort to Floppy Disk's and reentering the CMOS to
disable other HDD'S to boot up.
If so how did you manage it !
If so "Thanks" for any constructve help, and suggestions, in advance,
regards,
jeff.
ps...... sorry for what may "seem" like agro... but i'm just
shocked and a little disappointed ! Hopefully we can get functional
and functioning and a suitable / any GUI up and going quick. That
will lift our spirits...... big time !!!!
