Just a side note, Darwin from Apple as well as from OpenDarwin is FAT/
universal, i.e. the (almost?) same CD for ppc as well as for i386.

Not neccessarily.

While Darwin 8.0.1 is indeed a release made by Apple (internal),
there is no Darwin 8.1.x release at all and I wouldn't expect a newer
Darwin release from Apple before the next major Mac OS X release
(public Tiger on Intel or Leopard or whatever).

So, if you want to meet people having experience with installing
Apple's Darwin release, people working on a more current Darwin
release from the Apple-published sources (it doesn't build ATM),
people trying to fix and extend Darwin, you are welcome on this list.

Just try not to mix up "Apple Darwin" and "OpenDarwin" :-)

Have fun,
Markus
