I do agree that my assumption is based on Windows-land. Nevertheless, 
I've only been a Mac user for 2 years and I am glad that I chose it for 
my develop work. At the same time, I am also affected by Linux-land 
where a good portion of system optimization has to do with kernel 
recompilation.

So I suppose you are happier with Tiger than Panther on your G3 500MHz.

If someone had courageously tried it, then I hope that I can avoid the 
same pitfalls.
