rsync and rsync_hfs will support HFS metadata AND modification dates 
(or are up to date with the project) any year now. I would really 
like to mirror mac data to a Darwin box, given that only Darwin and 
OS X fully support HFS/HFSX.

The package manager will allow the removal of packages any year now.

Everyone will move to OpenDarwin's package manager any year now.

Darwin will have an update mechanism any year now.

I hereby nominate myself as the penultimate naive idiot poster child 
who believed that Apple was committed to Unix and the open source 
community.

Microsoft is committed to open-standard Microsoft Office formats too!

When on Earth will they realize that what is good for Darwin is good for Apple?

A great many FreeBSD and Linux servers that WILL NOT UNDER ANY 
CIRCUMSTANCES BE REPLACED BY XSERVE'S could be running Darwin but 
Apple is committed to this never happening. Nedriksts! Verbotten!

I can accept that Darwin is only a glimpse into the Mac OS X 
operational context as the author suggested but I cannot accept that 
*nix tools such as rsync that that they provide in OS X are simply 
broken, especially when they claimed to have fixed them.

To whom this offends: I apologize but it is based on personal 
experience - I would love to hear about concrete experiences to the 
contrary.

To those with facts to contradict mine: by all means lay them on and 
discredit me. Please!!! I STILL need to mirror HFSX volumes to 
non-Darwin operating systems and splitting/stitching forks is not a 
solution - MODIFICATION DATES ARE LOST. Some of this consider that 
akin to data loss. Not Apple though. Tune in...
