By the way, if you can ignore the account creation hassle, the current scheme doesn't seem too bad. The way factotum and namespace binding works, distributed computing already feels pretty good in Plan 9 compared to other systems. In particular, it doesn't trouble me to have a different handle here and at other locations; name mapping is not a constant battle. Everybody in this conversation already knows that perfectly well, but I just wanted to note it for anybody lurking. ron minnich wrote: > On Wed, 1 Sep 2004, andrey mirtchovski wrote: > > >>it was possible even when we started talking about it originally, but >>there were many problems with ip-based authentication that stopped this >>solution from being feasible... disallowing andrey@ucalgary to connect >>to your servers wouldn't stop me from rerouting my connection through >>somebody else's server for example and still appear legit. > > > this stuff is always mixing me up :-) > > I see your point ... why isn't stuff easy :-) > > ron > > _______________________________________________ > 9grid mailing list > 9grid-bRIBFEq44iy2p8tyqo/[email protected] > http://nwn.definitive.org/mailman/listinfo/9grid
