My take on it is that I won't use my old Sun gear for any 24 x 7 use.  I 
am migrating my current Debian X86 server to a Mac Mini with mirrored 
250GB 2.5" FW400 drives - hopefully the FW bus will happily power both 
of them.  Partly I want to play with Apple Server, but the hardware 
choice is to try and reduce the ongoing power demands.

I will be keeping at least one of my old sparc boxes for when I want to 
play with OBP and/or Solaris - but that's ad hoc use, not 24 x 7, so the 
power issue isn't as great.

If, as I suspect, Sun move to EFI firmware on their X86 boxen, and GRUB 
on the Sparc boxes then that will prompt me to get rid of the remaining 
Sparc power-hogs.
