I happen to own one of these.  You an actually press the power button as it
is beeping during powerup and it brings it to the OpenFirmware boot prom.  I
might be a bit off on the timing but that is one way of doing it. Also the
120 gig limit is a chipset limitation and can be overcome by operating
systems such as FBSD so I understand however the already slow IDE bus
becomes even slower.  The best option for drives > 120 gig is Firewire or
USB.  The Firewire option I believe is MUCH faster than the USB on these
systems (1.1 if i remember correctly).  I have never multi boot a sun
machine so I have no input from experience there but I believe SILO can do
multiple operating systems.  I would suggest sticking solaris on this and
not putting Linux on there because Linux/bsd on a sparc is just like
linux/bsd on a x86 for the most part except a ton of applications are not
ported (think java on bsd)
