Yep, I was backstage at OOW in LA when the LJE Network Computer demo failed, the parallel server croaked, the Collaboration demo didn't work, and the product manager for 'hattrick' (java office client) had to go out on stage and explain why it all failed.

Having worked for Sun(89) and Oracle(95) I have an appreciation for both companies and loved working for both of them. 

I just don't think Oracle really understands Hardware, or Solaris and certainly doesnt even know about this kind of community of Sun curators. Perhaps thats why they brought Mark Hurd in.

It does understand the need for coherent middleware across all its aquisitions, and Java is the way it is doing that.
