u2 crashed again last night - can system be moved back to SS20?

Did it again overnight. argh! I've long-suspected that my ultra 2 system
which runs seperate to my SB1000 needs replacing and recently it's started
shutting down without warning more often.

I have a v120 base unit without any RAM, and older systems like SS20's,
but no other spare Ultrasparc base units at present.

I have toyed with the idea of moving the disks from the U2 into an SS20 as
the SS20 hardware platform is super-reliable with the one exception of not
having as much air circulation especially with two drives installed.

Can a solaris 9 based system be backed-off from the sun4u platform to the
sun4m platform? I suspect it's not as simple as shifting between sun4u
models (booting single-user off CD, mount root partition on target HD,
blow away /dev and /devices, set up /etc/path_to_inst, re-install boot
block, re-create /dev and /devices, unmount, then reboot off the target
HD) since a lot more things would be different.

The U2 has the older version (-1315) of the power supply and some years
back the machine was running when a lightning hit took out some other
hardware (all of that is now gone). I will pull it out of the rack today
and take the power supply, etc. apart as the whole lot probably needs a
good cleanout.

If moving back to an SS20 platform can be done without a lot of mucking
around, I might have a go at that.

Craig.
