I used to have these when I ran my SRK business. Not sure if I still have 
the ones for SS20's (48T18's I think).

They are socketed and should be removable. They're just generic 
battery-backed static RAM with a lithium cell contained inside the 
'bulbous' cover.

The very early ones (especially 48T02's) could have the cover carefully 
cut back to expose the battery terminals and a new battery wired in. I've 
still got a 48T02 here which I customised with a replacable calculator 
battery holder attached to the top (have to get a good pic of this one 
day!).
