most predators, and prey, have vision tuned to rapid horizontal movement 
- as most of same move in the horizontal realm. video screen flicker is 
more a vertical phenomenon, so much less likely to trigger visual clues.

and as with most generalizations, this is imperfect. cats are noted for 
being good bird hunters, and birds frequently make vertical movements.

(those who pay attention might note that i'm bottom posting. i vacillate 
on the matter. perhaps a reflection of how seriously i take it...)
